We Offer Advice
Quick Fix Tricks of the Trade
A client came in with a question about his clever do-it-himself irrigation system for his lawn. His system was working well until he installed one more zone, the furthest away from the water source, with 4 – 4” sprinkler heads and there was not enough water pressure to lift all 4 up. He was looking for an easy fix to try first before buying new components.
We suggested putting in a smaller nozzle or adjusting the nozzle down to a smaller opening.
If that doesn’t work, then try a larger diameter pipe/hose leading to the zone.
The 3rd thing would be to try MP rotator nozzles which will increase pressure to just that zone.
A client came in and said “I have a Maxi Paw and the sprinkler head won’t turn. Do I need to pull the old head out of the canister and replace with a new one?” (We have the special wrench to do that here at AQS)
We suggested to first try spraying a bit of WD40 on the bearing area inside the canister, water is supposed to be the lubricant for the rotation of the head but sometimes small bits of sand get down in there and limit the rotation. So try the WD40 first before buying and replacing the Maxi Paw.
A client came in and said, “The black poly pipe is difficult to work with, it is hard to insert the fittings and such.”
We suggested to simply set the pipe out in the sun for a while and let it heat up. It is more pliable and the fittings will insert easier when warm.
Winter tip: A trick is to heat the poly with a hair dryer a little bit. Too much is not good. If the pipe becomes shiny you have heated too much. Let it cool down and try again.
Using a bit of soapy water for lubrication may also work.
